What are good gifts for any 11-year-old?

Eleven is "I'm too old for that" on Monday and a blanket fort on Friday. The gifts that work at this age respect both halves: something grown-up enough to show a friend, and still fun to play with on the living room floor.

The safest bet is a skill they can get better at alone. A magnetic speed cube, a complete skateboard, a 3/4-size guitar or a circuit kit each starts easy and gets harder, so the gift lasts past December. Pediatricians at the American Academy of Pediatrics describe ages 10 to 13 as a time of growing independence and a stronger pull toward friends, which is why two-player gifts like walkie-talkies or a pickleball set land well too.

Any child may love any idea on this page. Start with how they spend a free Saturday, then use the filter above to match it.

What are good gifts for 11-year-old boys?

Many gift lists for 11-year-old boys lean hard on building sets, sports gear and video games. Plenty of boys want exactly that, and the ideas above cover it: a set rated 9 and up, a basketball hoop that adjusts as they grow, a handheld console with an E10+ game.

Plenty of boys also want a sketchbook for comics, a guitar or a slime kit, so read the boy, not the aisle. Watch what he does when nobody plans his time. A kid who takes apart old remotes wants the circuit kit. A kid who narrates every bike ride wants walkie-talkies and a friend on the other end.

Eleven is also a great age for a family game that grown-ups enjoy, like a train-route board game you can play all break. Show only the games, or see more Christmas gifts for kids of every age.

Five picks to start with

  1. Magnetic speed cubeFor the kid who likes a challenge he can time
  2. Pair of grown-up walkie-talkiesFor bike rides with a best friend

  4. Big-wheel kick scooterFor the ride to school, helmet included
  5. Sketchbook and fineliner pensFor comics in the back of the notebook

What are good gifts for 11-year-old girls?

Many gift lists for 11-year-old girls look different from the boys' lists, heavy on craft kits and room decor. Some girls want exactly that: a friendship bracelet loom, LED strip lights behind the bed or a 48-color marker set for a kid who draws every day.

Plenty of girls would rather have the skateboard, the microscope or the drone. In the AAP's description of early adolescence, kids at this age start to explore ways of being independent, and the right gift helps: a scooter to ride to a friend's house, a guitar to practice behind a closed door.

So skip the pink aisle as a starting point and ask what she does with a free hour. Then pick by interest with the filter, and show only the science ideas if she is the one who asks how everything works.

What are 11-year-olds usually into?

The American Academy of Pediatrics groups ages 10 to 13 as early adolescence. Its guide says kids this age think in concrete, black-and-white terms, want more privacy, and often feel judged by their friends. That explains a lot of Christmas lists: things for their own room, things their friends also have, and things they can get good at without anyone watching.

Screens are part of the picture. In Common Sense Media's 2019 survey of US kids, tweens aged 8 to 12 averaged 4 hours and 44 minutes of screen media a day. Online videos were their favorite: 56% watched every day and 67% said they enjoyed them a lot.

Books held on too. In the same survey, 38% of tweens said they enjoyed reading a lot, against 24% of teens. A graphic novel series or a kids' e-reader can keep that habit going a little longer.

What are good gifts for 11-year-olds under $25?

On this page, 12 ideas cost less than $25 when we looked them up at US stores in October 2026. Pick the small things with a long life: a magnetic speed cube, a book of logic puzzles, an origami challenge kit, or the first book of a graphic novel series they have not read yet.

Small gifts also suit the friend exchange at school or the cousin you draw in a family swap. A fast card game for the whole family, a slime-making kit or a solar robot kit all cost little and get played with on Christmas Day.

To make a small budget feel bigger, pair two cheap things around one plan, like the three pairs in the list. Show only the ideas under $25, or find more cheap Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers for the whole family.

Two small gifts, one plan

  1. Sketchbook and an origami kitA rainy-day box for the week off school
  2. Speed cube and a book of codesPuzzles for the long car ride to Grandma's

Is 11 old enough for a phone or social media?

No law sets an age for a phone, so it is a family choice. It is a common one: in a Pew Research Center survey from May 2025, roughly six in ten parents of 11- and 12-year-olds said their child had a smartphone of their own.

Apps are different, because each one sets a minimum age in its own terms. TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and YouTube all say 13. TikTok's US terms say 14 in Florida, and YouTube lets younger kids watch through YouTube Kids or a setup a parent turns on. Since January 2026, Roblox asks every player to pass an age check before they can chat.

If a phone feels early, there are in-between steps. A GPS watch with calling covers getting home from practice. A handheld console with a game rated E10+ covers playing with friends. Whatever you choose, set up the controls before you wrap it, not on Christmas morning.

How do you find out what an 11-year-old wants?

Start low-tech. Ask a sibling, a cousin or the parent of their best friend what they have been talking about. Keep a note on your phone from October on: every video they quote, every game they mention, every thing they point at in a store.

Then let them tell Santa. On a live video call with Santa on your own account, your 11-year-old tells him what they want, out loud, in their own words. Santa is an AI video character who listens and answers live. Tweens who like to play it cool can treat it as a challenge: stump Santa with a riddle, then give him the top three. Santa never promises that a gift will come.

After the call, you get their wishes as a list with store prices, lowest first. Calls cost $1 a minute. Read how calling Santa works first. Shopping for adults as well? Ask the grown-ups on your list too.

  1. You start the callOn your phone, tablet or computer, no app. Your 11-year-old sits beside you.
  2. They tell Santa their wishesHe asks about their year and what they want most, and they answer out loud.
  3. You get the listEach wish with store prices, lowest first, so you pick the one to buy.

Call Santa together

Which safety labels matter on gifts for 11-year-olds?

Start with the box. In its December 2025 holiday tips, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission says to follow the age guidance and safety information on toy packaging, and to give helmets and other safety gear with scooters and riding toys. In its report on 2022, non-motorized scooters caused one in five toy-related injuries to children 14 and younger.

Games have their own label. On the ESRB scale, E10+ means suitable for ages 10 and up and T means 13 and up. Minecraft is rated E10+, while Fortnite and Roblox are rated T.

Two gifts on this list carry extra rules. A drone pilot must pass the FAA's free online TRUST test, and a drone of 250 grams or more must be registered. Any electric scooter or hoverboard should be certified to the UL 2272 safety standard, which the CPSC has urged every maker to meet. If a younger sibling shares the house, keep small parts away from children under 3.

Before you wrap it

  1. Read the age on the boxFor the child, and for the little ones in the house
  2. Add a helmetFor any board, skate, scooter or bike
  3. Check the game ratingE10+ is 10 and up; T is 13 and up
  4. Take the drone test togetherThe FAA's TRUST test is free and online

What are good last-minute gifts for an 11-year-old?

On December 23, pick something that needs no shipping. An e-gift card for the store or game shop they talk about goes by email, and under federal rules the money on it can't expire for at least five years. A booked experience works too: a climbing gym, a trampoline park or a movie with you, printed out and folded into a card.

Aunts, uncles and grandparents who live far away can send the family a call with Santa instead of a parcel. On the gift minutes page they pick how many minutes to give, at $1 a minute, add a few words, and receive a gift card with a code. It can be printed, kept as a picture or passed along as a link. A parent enters the code on the redeem page after signing in by email, and the minutes are added to that account. They have no expiry date, a code can be used one time, and the family can call together any evening.

How can you pay less for an 11-year-old's wish list?

Pick a number before you browse, and stay inside one price band. Big wishes can be shared: two grandparents can go halves on a bike rather than each buying something small.

Compare editions, not just stores. On October 16, 2026, one big US store listed its kids' e-reader at $179.99 and the standard model at $149.99. Read what the kids' box adds before you pay the $30 difference.

Let the call do the price hunting. Once your 11-year-old has told Santa their wishes on a call with Santa, you get each one back with prices from several shops, cheapest at the top, plus links. Hold on to receipts as well: Target, for example, will match its own lower price for up to 14 days after you buy.

Last, share one shortlist with every relative buying for the same 11-year-old, so nobody wraps the same speed cube twice.

Gifts for 11-year-olds: questions

Is an 11-year-old a tween?

Usually, yes. Common Sense Media counts ages 8 to 12 as tweens, and the American Academy of Pediatrics calls ages 10 to 13 early adolescence.

How much should I spend on an 11-year-old?

There's no set amount. The NRF's 2025 holiday survey put planned gift spending at $627.93 a person, and that covers every name on a shopper's list. Decide on a figure first, then use the budget buttons above.

What do you get an 11-year-old who has everything?

Give time or a skill: a class, a booked day out, or lessons for the guitar they already own. See more gift ideas for someone who has everything.

Can my 11-year-old call Santa on their own?

A grown-up (18+) runs every account and starts each call, and the child talks to Santa on that call. Read how calling Santa works.

Where can they write their own list?

Use the free Christmas wish list maker. They can type their wishes, print the list or share it with family.

Does my shortlist leave this device?

No. The stars live only in this browser. When you share the list, the idea codes ride along after the # in the link, and browsers never send that part of an address to a website.
